In a chilling twist to a romantic getaway gone wrong, the Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder case has taken a dramatic turn. A court in Shillong on Wednesday remanded Sonam Raghuvanshi and her four alleged accomplices to eight days of police custody for their suspected roles in the murder of Sonam’s husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon.
Sonam, 24, was brought from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, to Meghalaya late Tuesday. Her alleged co-conspirators—Raj Kushwaha, reportedly her boyfriend, and three hired men named Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—were brought in from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, under transit remand.
According to officials, the couple was last seen on May 23 in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills, a popular honeymoon destination. The case took a tragic turn when Raja’s decomposed body was found on June 2 in a gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji). The autopsy confirmed he had died from two sharp blows to the head, indicating premeditated murder.

Investigators believe the Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder was carefully planned. Sonam allegedly conspired with her boyfriend and hired the other three accused to carry out the killing. Shocking revelations from police suggest Sonam was so determined that she threatened to commit the act herself if her accomplices failed.
After initially disappearing, Sonam resurfaced in Ghazipur and surrendered on June 8. During interrogation, she and Raj Kushwaha have been blaming each other, making it difficult for the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to piece together the full chain of events.
The SIT now plans to reconstruct the crime scene and collect more evidence, including CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. Sonam’s brother has publicly denounced her actions and pledged to support Raja’s family in their pursuit of justice.
As more disturbing details surface, the Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder case continues to expose a web of deceit, betrayal, and a brutal murder orchestrated under the guise of love.
