According to data shared by the Delhi Police, Delhi recorded a marginal decrease in crimes of murder, robbery, ambush and assault in 2023 as compared to last year.
According to the data, a total of 504 cases of murder were registered in the national capital – down from 506 in 2023. Incidents of robbery also dropped to 1,510 from 1,654 in 2024. A total of 33 incidents of riots were registered in Delhi – at least 10 less than last year.
Cases of crime against women also saw a steep decline last year.
Delhi registered 2,076 cases of violence this year as against 2,141 last year. 2,037 cases of violence were registered, down from 2023 to 308. 362 cases of violence were registered, as against 281 in 2023. 29 cases of robbery were registered, same as last year. However, there was a sharp increase in some incidents like fatal accidents and robbery.
While 1,504 fatal accidents were registered last year, at least 29,011 cases of robbery were registered as against 1,432 cases in 2023, which is 400 cases more than last year.
A few incidents of gambling were registered in Delhi last year (3,556 incidents in 2024).
Apart from these, officials said that last year saw a sharp increase in cases related to additional act. At least 6,443 cases were registered as against 5,951 in 2023.
This happened when some Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, were arrested in other crime cases.
Over 100 criminals nabbed in 2024: Delhi Police
The Delhi Police nabbed a total of 114 criminals in 2024, including 40 parole jumpers and 40 convicts. Other criminals nabbed include 18 jail escapees, nine convicts, four wanted criminals and three non-bailable warrant offenders, officials said. In addition, six criminals were absconding for more than 10 years, while three were evading police custody for eight years. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said, “With a year of precision and accuracy, the crime agency has adopted a multi-pronged approach, combining advanced creative tools and traditional data methods. With the use of technical surveillance, CDR and IPDR investigations and source systems, various dedicated teams tracked down and arrested miscreants who were evading arrest for a long time.”
